2 weeks ago we discovered a very nice wine while dinning at Michael Mina in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Crios De Susana Balbo Torrontes, Cafayete, Argentina 2004 was really a good surprise. It pairs really well with seafood (we tried it with a lobster ravioli). From the producer web site, "crios" means offspring and is used to label the wine that did not reach the best quality/maturity. Man I need to try their other wines then.
Not as good as a the Torrontes, the Elderton Botrytis Semillon, Riverina, Australia, 2003 was served as a dessert wine and I see it as a good succedaneum to a French Sauternes. The American and Australian use the name of the grape to label their wine and the main grape for the French Sauternes is the Semillon grape.
